Newberry Township, PA (June 29, 2026) – A pickup truck driver was killed on Monday morning, June 29, after a wreck with two tractor-trailers on southbound I-83 near Exit 33 in Newberry Township, York County.
The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity had not been released at the time of this report. Neither of the two tractor-trailer drivers was injured in the crash.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the driver who lost their life.
When a fatal crash involves two separate tractor-trailers along with a passenger vehicle, surviving family members may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim under Pennsylvania law, and the involvement of multiple commercial vehicles significantly increases the complexity of determining liability.
At the center of any claim will be the question of how the collision began and how responsibility should be divided among the parties involved. Liability may rest with one truck driver, both truck drivers, or could potentially involve factors related to the passenger vehicle driver's actions, depending on what the investigation ultimately reveals about the sequence of events.
Because two separate trucking companies are likely involved in this incident, identifying and preserving evidence from both commercial vehicles becomes especially important. This includes each truck's data recorder, which can capture speed and braking information in the moments before impact, as well as driver logbooks and maintenance records that may reveal whether either driver complied with federal hours-of-service regulations or whether either vehicle had mechanical issues that contributed to the crash.
In addition to these records, investigators may review dispatch communications, inspection reports, cargo information, and any available dash camera footage to develop a more complete picture of what occurred. When multiple commercial vehicles are involved, even seemingly minor details can become important in determining responsibility.
Unfortunately, much of this evidence is controlled by private companies and may be subject to retention policies that allow it to be deleted or overwritten within a relatively short period after the collision. For that reason, taking steps to preserve records early can be particularly important in trucking cases.
Once liability issues are addressed, attention often shifts to the losses experienced by the surviving family. In a Pennsylvania wrongful death claim, eligible family members may be able to recover damages related to funeral and burial expenses, the loss of future income and financial support, and the lasting loss of companionship and guidance provided by their loved one.
To help protect these rights, an attorney may be able to send formal legal hold notices to both trucking companies, investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision between all three vehicles, and ensure that any resolution fully reflects the financial and personal impact of the family's loss.
