McVeytown, PA (February 8, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash in Mifflin County left one person with serious injuries and sent three others to the hospital on February 5. The collision occurred along a busy stretch of U.S. Route 522 in Oliver Township and prompted a significant emergency response.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown, the crash happened around 12:30 p.m. near Little Brick Road. This roadway serves as a main travel route through the area and often sees steady traffic throughout the day.

Troopers reported that a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic stopped in the southbound lane to make a left turn onto Little Brick Road. A 2024 RAM 2500 traveling behind the Sonic also came to a stop to allow the turn.

Moments later, a 2021 Nissan NV1500 struck the rear of the pickup truck. The force of the impact pushed the RAM 2500 forward into the stopped Chevrolet Sonic, creating a chain-reaction collision involving all three vehicles.

State police identified the Nissan driver as a 36-year-old man from Elmora. Troopers said he suffered serious injuries in the crash. Emergency crews transported him by Geisinger LifeFlight to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for advanced trauma care.

Three additional people suffered injuries during the collision. Troopers said an infant and a 23-year-old woman from McVeytown, both occupants of the Chevrolet Sonic, sustained minor injuries. A 69-year-old McVeytown man from the RAM 2500 also suffered minor injuries. Ground ambulances transported all three to Geisinger Lewistown for evaluation and treatment.

Emergency responders focused on patient care, scene safety, and traffic control. Crews worked to clear damaged vehicles from the roadway while troopers documented evidence and gathered information. Traffic disruptions occurred as responders managed the scene.

State police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Our thoughts are with all those injured as they recover from this incident.

What Should You Know After a Chain-Reaction Crash in Mifflin County?

Chain-reaction crashes often happen when vehicles stop suddenly and following drivers cannot react in time. Even at moderate speeds, rear-end impacts can cause significant injuries due to the sudden transfer of force between vehicles.

In these crashes, occupants may suffer injuries that range from minor strains to severe trauma. Head injuries, back pain, and internal injuries sometimes appear hours or days later. Medical evaluation after a crash helps identify these issues early and guides treatment.

When a crash involves multiple vehicles, emergency response becomes more complex. Responders must assess several occupants, coordinate transport decisions, and manage roadway hazards at the same time. Air medical transport often becomes necessary when injuries require specialized trauma care.

Recovery after a serious crash can involve more than an initial hospital visit. Some injured people need follow-up appointments, imaging, or physical therapy. Missed work and disrupted routines may add stress during recovery.

Documentation plays an important role after multi-vehicle collisions. Police reports, medical records, and vehicle repair estimates help clarify what happened. Organized records support insurance communication and future decisions.

Pennsylvania law sets deadlines for injury-related claims. Understanding these timelines early allows injured people to make informed choices without unnecessary pressure.

A car accident lawyer can help explain available options after a chain-reaction crash. Legal guidance may include reviewing crash reports, medical documentation, and insurance information. An attorney can also explain how responsibility assessments typically work in multi-vehicle cases.

At Edelstein Martin & Nelson, we help crash victims understand medical documentation, insurance communication, and possible legal options after serious accidents across Pennsylvania.
