State College, PA (February 7, 2026) – A Penn State student suffered serious injuries after a hit-and-run crash on February 7 in State College. Borough police reported that the incident occurred near campus and led to a swift investigation that resulted in an arrest later that morning.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Beaver Avenue and South Garner Street. This area remains active late at night due to nearby student housing, restaurants, and pedestrian traffic. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

When police reached the intersection, the driver had already left the scene. Emergency responders focused on providing medical care to the injured pedestrian, whom the police identified as a 20-year-old Penn State student.

Paramedics transported the student to Geisinger Medical Center, where doctors treated them for serious injuries.

State College Police immediately began searching for the vehicle involved. Investigators reviewed available information and followed leads to locate the suspected car. Authorities later found the vehicle and arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the crash.

Police did not disclose what caused the crash. Officers continue examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the driver left the scene after striking the pedestrian.

Our thoughts are with the injured student as they receive medical care and continue their recovery.

What Happens After a Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash in Pennsylvania?

Hit-and-run crashes create immediate challenges for injured pedestrians. Leaving the scene delays accountability and can worsen outcomes by interrupting timely information sharing with responders and investigators. Police often rely on witness statements, surveillance footage, and vehicle evidence to identify the driver.

Serious pedestrian injuries commonly include head trauma, fractures, and internal injuries. Some symptoms may worsen hours or days after the crash. Hospital treatment and follow-up care help doctors monitor recovery and address complications early.

After a hit-and-run, documentation becomes especially important. Medical records, police reports, and any witness information help establish what happened. Organized records support insurance claims and future decision-making.

Crashes near college campuses raise additional concerns. Dense pedestrian traffic, limited visibility at night, and impaired or distracted driving can increase risks. Awareness and enforcement efforts aim to reduce these dangers, but incidents still occur.

Pennsylvania law sets deadlines for injury-related claims. Learning these timelines early allows injured individuals and families to consider options without unnecessary pressure.

A personal injury lawyer can help explain available options after a hit-and-run crash. Legal guidance may include reviewing police reports, medical documentation, and insurance policies. An attorney can also explain how claims typically proceed when a driver initially flees the scene.

Legal consultations usually focus on clarity and information, not urgency. This guidance allows injured people to focus on healing while understanding their rights.

At Edelstein Martin & Nelson, we help injured pedestrians understand medical documentation, insurance communication, and possible legal options after serious accidents across Pennsylvania.
