Perry Township, PA (June 25, 2025) – A serious crash in Perry Township left three teenagers in critical condition Wednesday night and a building damaged.
It happened between a tractor-trailer and a car on Route 61 (Pottsville Pike) and Zweizig Road just before 6:00 p.m. Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) say the car was traveling north when it attempted to make a left-hand turn at the intersection. The tractor-trailer was traveling south, also approaching the intersection.
The investigation found that the car, which also had a green light, attempted to turn left onto Zweizig Road. The car was struck on its right side and traveled off the road, striking a fence before eventually coming to a rest. The tractor-trailer also went off the road and struck three vehicles parked in a fenced lot. One of those vehicles was pushed inside a nearby building, causing significant damage.
Officials said the driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured, but three juveniles in the car were transported to Reading Hospital in critical condition. As of Wednesday night, there were no reported fatalities. That said, the cause of the crash remains under investigation in the meantime, and officers with the Perry Township Police Department asked any witnesses to get in touch right away.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their complete and swift recovery.
Throughout Pennsylvania, some of the leading causes of car accidents include distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, and adverse weather conditions. Distracted driving—whether due to texting, phone calls, or other in-vehicle distractions—remains a growing concern. Meanwhile, speeding and reckless driving increase the likelihood of severe crashes, particularly in high-traffic or residential areas. Poor weather, such as snow, ice, or heavy rain, can also make roadways treacherous, contributing to many avoidable accidents.
The aftermath of a car accident can be life-altering. Victims may face significant injuries, such as whiplash, broken bones, spinal cord damage, or traumatic brain injuries. Even seemingly minor collisions can lead to long-term physical or emotional challenges. In addition to the physical toll, victims often encounter mounting medical bills, lost wages, and damage to their vehicles, compounding the stress of recovery.
Pennsylvania law provides pathways for car accident victims to seek compensation for their losses. The state follows a unique “choice no-fault” insurance system, meaning drivers can select limited or full tort coverage when purchasing auto insurance. Limited tort coverage restricts a driver’s ability to sue for non-economic damages, like pain and suffering, except in cases of serious injury. Full tort coverage allows broader rights to pursue compensation. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for protecting your rights.
Acting quickly is essential if you’ve been injured in a car accident. Pennsylvania imposes strict deadlines for filing personal injury claims, and delays could jeopardize your ability to recover compensation. Consulting a legal professional can help you understand your options, navigate the claims process, and work toward securing the financial recovery you need to move forward.
