Collegeville, PA (April 3, 2024) – An elderly woman was killed after a tree fell on her car following a crash during severe storms in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, officials said.
The woman in her early 80s was driving on Main Street and 9th Avenue on Wednesday when the incident occurred. The woman died from her injuries, according to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety. Montgomery County Department of Public Safety Deputy Director of Public Safety Todd Stieritz said a witness called 911 just after 1:00 p.m. to report the incident.
Stieritz explained that first responders responded to the scene one minute later. The fire department freed the victim around 1:20 p.m., though she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. It's unclear if any other injuries were reported, but an investigation is ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased woman's family. Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.
Pennsylvania is home to thousands of vehicle accidents annually, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities for many drivers. Like residents of many other states, Pennsylvanians may be particularly concerned about the dangers and risks of truck accidents, especially when traversing the multi-lane roadways and heavily trafficked interstates spanning our state. Of course, Pennsylvania sees a lot of truck traffic because of the state's vast system of roads and interstates.
Moreover, accidents involving multiple drivers or large vehicles are likely to be catastrophic and even deadly. For example, in one recent year alone, 166,000 of these accidents occurred throughout the United States, around 4,700 of which resulted in deaths. Though Florida, Texas, and California were the top states for these accidents, Pennsylvania wasn't far behind. That said, those interested in filing claims against the insurance company of an at-fault driver in a Pennsylvania accident may face an uphill battle.
For these reasons and more, following a vehicle accident caused by another party's negligence, victims can and should take legal action with the help of a skilled attorney. If you've been hurt or lost your loved one in a preventable collision, it is crucial that you reach out to a Collegeville wrongful death lawyer as soon as possible.
