Springfield, PA (November 2, 2024) – Nearly a dozen children were transported to the hospital after a charter bus crashed into an East Springfield house on Wednesday morning, October 30.
Per officers, the accident happened around 10:20 a.m. in the 4900 block of Route 215. According to Pennsylvania State Police and the West County Paramedics, the bus was carrying dozens of kids and teachers to a day out at Camp Fitch.
The crash happened when the charter bus went through the intersection of Route 215 and Route 20 (Ridge Road) when it nearly collided with a produce box truck traveling west on Route 20. Troopers added that the charter bus was forced off the road and into the front of a nearby home, causing heavy damage. The box truck wound up hitting nearby trees.
First responders said there were close to 40 people on board, and around 10 to 12 kids were transported to the hospital for treatment, but no injuries were considered life-threatening. Meanwhile, state police are handling the investigation into this incident.
A bus accident can be an extremely devastating event to endure, particularly when it comes to the aftermath. Moreover, these accidents often result in severe injuries for those involved. This is due to the fact that buses are much larger than other vehicles and carry far more passengers than standard cars and trucks. Additionally, most buses do not have seatbelts, which means people, generally children and students, are likely to be thrown around or even ejected from the vehicle during collisions.
Those involved in bus accidents are likely to suffer severe trauma to the head, broken bones, and internal organ injuries as a result of their accidents. Unfortunately, injured victims often have to spend a significant amount of time undergoing medical care. For these reasons and more, if you have been hurt in a bus accident, you must understand the legal options and your rights moving forward. A Springfield personal injury lawyer can help you better understand your options following a collision and which ones will work best for you. In most cases, crash victims pursue legal action against the person responsible for the crash taking place.
This type of legal action, a personal injury lawsuit, can help you get money for your medical costs, the pain and suffering you have endured, lost wages, and more. It is in your best interest to file a legal claim immediately to ensure you have all the evidence needed to prove that the defendant was negligent and that you deserve the compensation necessary to cover your losses.
