Lower Burrell, PA (January 15, 2026) – Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a Plum man in Lower Burrell on January 14. The incident occurred along Greensburg Road and prompted a lengthy roadway closure as authorities worked the scene.
According to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office, the victim was identified as 62-year-old Harry J. Thomas of Plum. Thomas was walking westbound on Greensburg Road when a vehicle struck him. The impact caused fatal injuries.
Authorities received a report of the incident around 1 p.m. near the city’s Kinloch neighborhood. However, investigators believe the crash occurred earlier in the morning. Police have not confirmed the exact time of impact or who initially contacted emergency services.
Emergency crews responded and secured the area. Traffic rerouted near the Glassmere Fuel station on the Parnassus Triangle side of the scene. Additional detours directed vehicles through the Kinloch neighborhood from the eastern side.
Lower Burrell police identified the driver involved in the crash. Detective Steve Aulerich confirmed that the driver has cooperated with investigators. Police did not announce any charges as of Wednesday evening.
A Pennsylvania State Police forensics team responded to assist with evidence collection. Personnel from the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office also arrived during the afternoon hours. Investigators examined roadway conditions, vehicle damage, and surrounding areas.
A white Ford pickup truck with visible front-end damage remained at the scene in front of PSE Asphalt and Concrete Construction along Greensburg Road. Authorities documented the vehicle as part of the investigation.
Medics pronounced Thomas dead at the scene. The coroner’s office reported that the official cause of death remains pending. An autopsy and toxicology testing will provide additional information. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Harry J. Thomas during this difficult time.
