Blair Co, PA - Rollover Truck Accident Injures Victims on I-99

December 15, 2023

Blair County, PA (December 15, 2023) – A portion of Interstate 99 was blocked off Friday morning due to a rollover accident, which caused traffic to come to a standstill.

An off-road tri-axle vehicle crashed in the southbound lanes of I-99 between Exit 52 to Route 350 in Bald Eagle and Exit 48 to Tyrone, which prompted several fire companies to rush to the scene. After returning to the road following a minor collision with another vehicle, the truck reportedly collided with a barrier, sending it rolling onto its side, according to Billy McElwain, assistant fire chief of Hookies Fire Company. The accident did not result in any major injuries, though EMTs assessed a handful of victims and may have taken at least one person to a local medical center, per area news footage. No further details were released, but an investigation remains ongoing and active.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families.

Truck Accidents in Pennsylvania

Motor vehicle crashes in Pennsylvania, particularly those involving large trucks, often involve at least some element of negligence. Even though we want to believe that everyone will operate their vehicles safely to ensure those around them remain out of harm’s way, this is simply not a reality, and the consequences of negligence when operating a semi-truck or tractor-trailer are, unfortunately, unbelievably devastating.

We see far too many innocent people suffer debilitating injuries due to the negligent and careless actions of others. Leading factors in automobile collisions across Pennsylvania each year include:

  • Failure to yield: We see all too many people injured in motor vehicle accidents when drivers fail to yield the right of way at intersections. When drivers do not yield the right-of-way to other people while switching lanes, turning at intersections, or even simply traveling on the road, they can cause serious accidents that lead to devastating injuries.
  • Intoxication: Drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or even drugs cannot maintain control over their vehicles. Impairment can make it nearly impossible to make responsible decisions and to be able to stop in time to avoid crashing into others.
  • Speeding: Driving too fast significantly increases the risk of a person losing control of their vehicle. Unfortunately, this is far too common here in Pennsylvania, especially here in the Philadelphia area. We often see drivers speeding around the interstate in order to make it to their destinations quicker. Unfortunately, accidents involving speeding vehicles do not typically end well.

Following an automobile accident that was caused by the negligence of another party, victims are able to take legal action. It is crucial for accident victims to reach out to a Blair County truck accident lawyer as soon as possible.
