Lancaster County, PA (April 1, 2024) – A multi-vehicle crash shut down a stretch of Pennsylvania Route 283 in Lancaster County on Monday, April 1, according to local authorities in the area.

Per responding officials, including troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police, all eastbound lanes were closed between the exits to Rheems/Elizabethtown and State Route 772 to Manheim/Mount Joy. However, police say that the total number of injured victims involved remains unknown. Troopers with the PSP are investigating in the interim but have asked any witnesses to come forward as soon as possible.

Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.

Injury Vehicle Wrecks in Pennsylvania

Our state is home to thousands of vehicle accidents annually, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities for many drivers. Like residents of many other states, Pennsylvanians may be particularly concerned about the dangers and risks of multi-driver accidents, especially when traversing the multi-lane roadways and heavily trafficked interstates spanning our state. Of course, Pennsylvania sees a lot of truck traffic because of the state's vast system of roads and interstates.

In addition, incidents that include several drivers or heavy-duty vehicles, such as trucks, have a significant probability of becoming catastrophic and even fatal on these roadways. To provide just one example, at least 166,000 truck accidents occurred throughout the United States in just one year. Approximately 4,678 of these were fatalities as a consequence of these serious wrecks. And even worse, in spite of the fact that Florida, Texas, and California were the states with the highest number of accidents, Pennsylvania was not too far behind.

In fact, there were around 10,000 to 12,000 truck accidents in Pennsylvania in 2022, meaning that our state ranked fourth for the occurrence of these serious semi-truck collisions. Approximately 250 to 300 people lost their lives in these incidents, and more than 4,000 to 5,000 were injured. That said, those interested in filing claims against the insurance company of an at-fault truck driver in a Pennsylvania truck accident may face an uphill battle. In other words, victims do not deal with the average motorist in these claims.

Regrettably, a large number of insurance companies are simply concerned with minimizing their financial liability and increasing their profits to benefit their own bottom line. Furthermore, since trucking companies are engaged, victims are often up against well-funded enterprises that have an army of attorneys fighting for their interests, leaving victims and their families to attempt to cover their losses out of their own pocket.

For these reasons and more, following a vehicle accident caused by another party's negligence, victims can and should take legal action with the help of a skilled attorney. It is crucial for accident victims to reach out to a Pittsburgh personal injury lawyer as soon as possible.
