College Township, PA (March 11, 2026) — A woman was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, following a severe two-vehicle collision on Benner Pike and Stocker Drive in College Township.

According to State College police, a man driving a Chevrolet Equinox was heading southbound and attempted a left turn, moving into the path of a northbound utility pickup truck. The pickup truck subsequently collided with the passenger’s side of the SUV.

Emergency responders arrived to find one person entrapped in the vehicle. The woman was extricated and transported by a Geisinger Life Flight helicopter to the trauma center at UPMC Williamsport. The man driving the SUV was transported by ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck was reported uninjured.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with those hurt in this crash, and we hope they recover quickly.

Pennsylvania Fault and Liability Laws

In Pennsylvania, liability is determined by a modified comparative negligence rule. Under this system, you are permitted to pursue compensation for your injuries provided you are not more than 50% at fault for the accident. If you are found to be partially responsible, for example, 20% at fault, your total financial recovery will be reduced by that percentage. However, if your share of the blame reaches 51% or higher, the law completely bars you from recovering any compensation from the other party.

Because Pennsylvania utilizes this comparative system, insurance companies often work to assign the highest possible percentage of fault to the injured party to reduce their payout. This makes the official police crash report a critical piece of evidence in your case. This documentation serves as a foundational element for proving liability. Because liability can be highly contested, preserving evidence like surveillance footage from nearby businesses, vehicle "black box" (EDR) data, and witness statements is essential for building a strong claim.

Finally, you should also be aware of Pennsylvania’s statute of limitations, which generally requires that you file any personal injury lawsuit within two years of the date of the accident. While this gives you time for recovery and investigation, acting quickly to secure legal representation is often beneficial, as it allows for an independent investigation before scene conditions change or evidence is lost.

Navigating insurance negotiations while managing medical recovery is demanding; consulting with a legal professional early ensures that your rights are protected, your medical records are properly documented, and your claim is positioned to account for the full extent of your losses, including both economic and non-economic damages.

A car accident lawyer can look at the details of your crash, speak with witnesses, and handle the back-and-forth with insurance adjusters. They can also help you understand if you have a claim for lost wages, medical bills, or other expenses from the crash.
