Pittsburgh, PA (March 12, 2026) — On Wednesday morning, March 11, a man was killed in what appears to be a hit-and-run crash near the intersection of Davis Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue in the Brighton Heights neighborhood.

When first responders arrived, crews found a man lying in the street with significant head trauma. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, investigators believe the injuries were consistent with those of someone struck by a vehicle. No vehicle remained at the scene. The collision is being investigated by the city’s Collision Investigation Unit.

Parts of Davis and Massachusetts Avenues were temporarily closed while police and first responders examined the scene, collected evidence, and worked to safely reopen the roadway.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.

What Compensation Can I Recover After a Hit-and-Run in Pennsylvania?

Losing a loved one in a hit-and-run crash is a traumatic experience. Beyond coping with grief, families may face legal, medical, and financial challenges. Understanding potential compensation options can help ensure that rights are protected.

Possible types of compensation after a hit-and-run in Pennsylvania may include:

  • Medical expenses: Coverage can include hospital bills, surgeries, emergency care, rehabilitation, medications, ongoing treatments, and any specialized care required as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. This ensures victims and their families are not burdened with overwhelming medical costs.

  • Lost wages: Compensation may cover income lost while recovering from injuries, attending medical appointments, or caring for an injured family member. This helps alleviate financial stress during a period when the ability to work may be limited.

  • Loss of earning capacity: If injuries prevent a person from returning to their previous job or reduce their ability to earn a comparable income in the future, compensation may account for the long-term financial impact on the victim.

  • Pain and suffering: Financial relief can address both physical pain and emotional distress, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and the loss of companionship or enjoyment of life caused by the accident.

  • Funeral and burial costs: In the tragic event of a fatality, compensation can help cover funeral, burial, cremation, and related expenses, easing the burden on grieving families.

  • Property damage: Coverage may include repair or replacement of vehicles, personal belongings, and other property damaged or destroyed in the crash, ensuring victims can recover without additional financial hardship.

Hit-and-run accidents can be complex, and pursuing compensation often involves both insurance claims and potential legal action. Consulting a qualified wrongful death accident attorney can help families navigate these processes, communicate with insurers, and ensure all necessary documentation is properly handled.
