Bethlehem, PA (May 14, 2026) – Three people were hurt after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of North New Street and Elizabeth Avenue in Bethlehem on Thursday, May 14.

According to initial reports, one of the vehicles ran a red light before the collision occurred. Emergency crews responded after receiving reports of the accident. When crews arrived, they found people trapped inside both vehicles.

Rescue crews performed auto extrication to free the victims from the wreckage. Paramedics evaluated the injured parties at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officials have not released the names of the drivers or the severity of the injuries at this time. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

We wish the injured victims a full and swift recovery.

Why Red Light Accidents in Bethlehem, PA Can Cause Severe Injuries

In Bethlehem, red light accidents often cause severe injuries because vehicles enter intersections with little or no time to brake. The angle of impact can strike the side of a vehicle, where occupants have less protection. As a result, victims may need emergency care and rescue support.

Once a driver runs a red light at a busy Bethlehem intersection such as Route 378 & Center City or 13th Avenue & West Market Street, other vehicles may already be moving through the crossing. The speed of both vehicles can increase the force of impact. Because the crash happens suddenly, occupants may have little time to react.

When a side-impact collision hits a driver or passenger door, the space between the person and the impact point is limited. Side airbags can help reduce injury risks, but they cannot prevent every serious injury. This is why red light crashes can lead to head, neck, back, chest, and leg injuries.

If the collision damages the vehicle’s frame, occupants can become trapped inside. Rescue crews may need special tools to cut through metal and free the victims. That delay can make the crash more serious for anyone who needs urgent medical care.

After a red light accident, some injuries may not show symptoms right away. Concussions, internal injuries, and soft tissue damage can take hours or days to appear. For that reason, you should see a doctor after the crash, even if you feel stable.

Before speaking with an insurance adjuster, you should understand your injuries and treatment needs. Adjusters may push for a quick settlement that does not cover long-term medical costs or lost income. Because of that, you should wait until your doctor explains your diagnosis and recovery plan.

Pennsylvania follows a choice no-fault insurance system, so your policy may affect what damages you can pursue. Drivers who chose limited tort may face restrictions unless their injuries meet a serious threshold. A car accident lawyer can explain how your policy may apply to your case.

At Edelstein Martin & Nelson, we have years of experience reviewing injury cases across Pennsylvania. Our team can explain how medical bills, insurance communication, and documentation may work in your case.
