Plains Township, PA (August 26, 2025) – A 31-year-old woman died on August 25 following a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 315 near Ridgewood Road, according to authorities.
The collision, which occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m., involved a tractor-trailer and two other vehicles at the intersection. Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes reported that the woman was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township, where she died shortly after arrival.
Route 315 near the crash site was closed for several hours as Plains Township police and the Pennsylvania State Police conducted their investigation. The roadway reopened around 6:15 p.m. The crash remains under investigation, however. Witnesses who had additional information were asked to contact area officials.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim's loved ones. Our thoughts also go out to any injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.
Each year, Pennsylvania records thousands of vehicle accidents, many of which result in life-altering injuries or fatalities. With the state’s extensive network of multi-lane highways and heavily traveled interstates, the risks for drivers are high. Busy roads such as the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-95, I-76, and I-80 see heavy traffic volume and high speeds, conditions that increase the likelihood of catastrophic crashes.
Accidents involving multiple vehicles are particularly devastating. Nationally, over 166,000 multi-vehicle crashes occur annually, with nearly 4,700 resulting in fatalities. While states like Florida, Texas, and California see the highest numbers, Pennsylvania is consistently close behind.
These statistics underscore just how dangerous roadway travel can be—and how families across the Commonwealth are impacted by sudden, preventable tragedies.
Unfortunately, recovering compensation after a serious or fatal crash is rarely straightforward. Insurance companies often fight aggressively to limit payouts, disputing liability or minimizing the value of claims. For grieving families, this means an uphill battle while they are already coping with overwhelming loss and financial strain.
When negligence leads to a fatal crash, surviving family members may pursue a wrongful death claim under Pennsylvania law. Compensation can include funeral and burial costs, lost future income and benefits, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering.
Taking swift legal action not only holds negligent drivers accountable but also helps families secure the financial support they need to move forward.
