Philadelphia, PA (April 29, 2024) – Pennsylvania State Police report that a 66-year-old Philadelphia woman was the victim of a fatal accident Sunday evening on Interstate 95 south at Ashburner Street in the city.
Troopers say the woman was a front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the deadly accident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. and blocked all lanes of traffic on the highway. At least one driver was also injured in the vehicle accident, troopers added. The name of the driver wasn’t released, however. An investigation is still ongoing in the meantime, and witnesses were urged to get in touch with the Philadelphia Police Department.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased woman's family. Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.
Pennsylvania is home to thousands of vehicle accidents annually, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities for many drivers. When traveling on the multi-lane freeways and highly frequented interstates that cover our state, Pennsylvanians may be particularly worried about the hazards and risks of these serious accidents, just like residents of many other states. This is especially true on highways with higher speeds and major traffic. As a result of the extensive network of highways and interstates that Pennsylvania has, it is unsurprising that our state experiences a significant amount of fatal and injury-causing collisions.
Moreover, accidents involving multiple drivers are even more likely to be catastrophic and even deadly. For example, in one recent year alone, 166,000 of these accidents occurred throughout the United States, around 4,700 of which resulted in deaths. Though Florida, Texas, and California were the top states for these accidents, Pennsylvania wasn't far behind. That said, those interested in filing claims against the insurance company of an at-fault driver in a Pennsylvania accident may face an uphill battle.
For these reasons and more, following a vehicle accident caused by another party's negligence, victims can and should take legal action with the help of a skilled attorney. If you've been hurt or lost your loved one in a preventable collision, it is crucial that you reach out to a Philadelphia wrongful death lawyer as soon as possible.
