Pittsburgh, PA (December 12, 2025) – Four adults and two children were taken to the hospital on December 11 following a multi-vehicle crash that temporarily shut down a stretch of the Parkway North in Pittsburgh.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the collision occurred around 10:40 a.m. near the Interstate 579 (I-579) Veterans Bridge ramp. The crash involved several vehicles and caused significant traffic delays on southbound Interstate 279 (I-279).
In response to the incident, Pennsylvania State Police closed I-279 southbound between the North-East Street exit and the Veterans Bridge exit to allow emergency personnel to assist the injured and clear the roadway. The highway remained closed for just over an hour and reopened at approximately 11:45 a.m.
All six individuals—four adults and two children—were transported to nearby hospitals. Authorities have not yet released information about the severity of their injuries or the identities of those involved.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by state police.
Our thoughts are with those injured and their families during this time of recovery.
Multi-vehicle collisions, especially on major highways like I-279 in Pittsburgh, can lead to serious injuries and highly complex accident investigations. With high traffic volumes and fast-moving vehicles, it only takes one small mistake to trigger a chain-reaction crash involving several cars. These incidents often occur during busy times of day and can affect numerous drivers and passengers, including children.
In multi-vehicle crashes, the chances of injury increase significantly. Common injuries include whiplash, broken bones, concussions, back injuries, and internal trauma. Victims may need emergency medical attention, surgery, follow-up treatment, and weeks or months of physical therapy. These injuries can result in missed time from work, long-term pain, and emotional trauma, all of which place a heavy burden on individuals and families.
If another driver’s negligence contributed to the crash—such as speeding, distracted driving, or following too closely—injured victims may be legally entitled to financial compensation. A skilled car accident lawyer from Edelstein Martin & Nelson can help investigate the accident, identify all responsible parties, and pursue claims against the proper insurance carriers. Compensation may cover medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, rehabilitation costs, and future care needs.
Legal claims stemming from multi-car crashes are often more complicated than those involving just two vehicles. Determining liability can take time and may require reviewing police reports, witness statements, vehicle damage, and traffic camera footage. Insurance companies may attempt to shift blame or minimize payouts, which is why having legal representation is so important.
