Philadelphia, PA (June 15, 2026) – A 60-year-old man was killed early Monday morning, June 15, after being pinned between two vehicles in a hit-and-run crash at Fox Street and Hunting Park Avenue.
Roger Bailey was assisting with a jump-start of a disabled Ford Escape when a Honda Pilot struck the Ford, pinning Bailey between his vehicle and a nearby Subaru Forester. Bailey was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Honda fled the scene on foot but was later located and arrested by police. The 26-year-old driver had not been publicly identified at the time of this report.
The investigation into the wreck remains ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to Roger Bailey's family and all those who loved him.
When a person is killed in a hit-and-run crash in Philadelphia, surviving family members may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim under Pennsylvania law, and that civil process can move forward independently of any criminal case against the arrested driver.
This distinction matters because many families assume they must wait for the criminal proceedings to resolve before taking legal action, but that is not the case. A criminal arrest and any resulting conviction can strengthen a civil wrongful death claim by establishing a formal legal finding of wrongful conduct, but consulting an attorney and beginning the civil claims process can and should happen as early as possible, regardless of where the criminal case stands.
Another important consideration is that Pennsylvania's comparative fault rules allow courts to evaluate the actions of all parties present at the scene, not just the driver who caused the crash. When multiple vehicles and individuals are involved in the same incident, a thorough legal review of the available evidence can help clarify how responsibility is apportioned and what that means for the scope and value of a potential wrongful death claim.
A wrongful death lawyer can help the family navigate that analysis and ensure that all potentially liable parties are properly identified and considered.
The financial losses that surviving family members may be able to pursue in a Pennsylvania wrongful death claim can be significant and far-reaching. Funeral and burial costs, medical expenses incurred before death, the long-term loss of the deceased's income and financial support, and the lasting absence of a loved one's companionship and guidance are among the damages that may be considered under Pennsylvania law.
Because these losses can be difficult to fully quantify in the immediate aftermath of a fatal crash, settling too quickly, before the complete picture of the family's financial and personal losses is clearly established, can result in compensation that falls well short of what the family may actually need in the difficult years ahead.
