Philadelphia, PA (May 1, 2026) — A 33-year-old woman is in critical condition following a hit-and-run collision in North Philadelphia on Wednesday night, April 29. The incident occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m. near the intersection of North Broad and Wingohocking Streets.

Philadelphia Police report that the woman was attempting to cross midblock heading eastbound on North Broad Street when she was struck by a silver Cadillac traveling southbound. Witnesses and investigators state that the driver, described as a male, initially stopped and exited the vehicle but then fled the scene before officers arrived.

The victim was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, where she remains in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the hurt woman as she recovers.

What Steps Should I Take After a Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in Philadelphia?

If you have been injured in a hit-and-run in Philadelphia, taking immediate action is vital for both your physical recovery and your ability to secure compensation under Pennsylvania’s unique insurance laws.

1. Seek Immediate Trauma Care

Even if your injuries do not feel life-threatening, you must be evaluated at a regional trauma center. High-impact pedestrian collisions often cause internal bleeding or concussions that may not be immediately apparent. Establishing a medical record directly following the crash is essential to proving that your injuries were caused by the crash.

2. File a Formal Police Report Within 24-48 Hours

In Philly, a hit-and-run is a serious crime. You must ensure that the Philadelphia Police Department has a formal report on file. This report is a prerequisite for most insurance claims, especially those involving hit-and-run drivers. Provide as many details as possible, such as the color, make, and model of the car, as well as any description of the driver or the direction they fled.

3. Open a "No-Fault" PIP Claim

Pennsylvania follows a "choice no-fault" system. Even as a pedestrian, your own auto insurance policy (or a family member's policy in your household) is the first to pay for your medical bills through Personal Injury Protection (PIP).

If you do not have auto insurance, you may be eligible for the Pennsylvania Assigned Claims Plan (PACP), which provides a safety net for uninsured pedestrians. PIP and PACP benefits help pay for emergency care and rehabilitation regardless of who was at fault.

4. Secure Neighborhood Video and Witness Data

Nearby houses or businesses may have recorded the incident. In 2026, the "Jay Alert" pilot program in Philadelphia may also involve local repair shops that are required to notify police if a vehicle with matching damage is brought in.

A lawyer can help by quickly issuing "spoliation letters" to preserve surveillance footage from nearby storefronts before it is overwritten, which could be the key to identifying the fleeing driver.
