Philadelphia, PA – Pedestrian Killed in Crash on Castor Ave near Aramingo Ave

Philadelphia, PA (August 23, 2023) – Two speeding vehicles were involved in an accident that claimed the life of a male pedestrian early Tuesday morning in the Port Richmond neighborhood.

Just after 12:00 a.m. on August 22, the Philadelphia Police Department was dispatched to the scene of an accident on Castor Avenue.

Reports show that a blue Dodge charger and a white Dodge Charger were both traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Castor Avenue and Aramingo Avenue.

At the same time, an adult male pedestrian was attempting to cross Castor Avenue. The blue Dodge struck the pedestrian, launching the victim out of his shoes and throwing him across the roadway.

The pedestrian suffered severe injuries due to the crash and ultimately was pronounced deceased at the scene at approximately 1225 a.m.

The involved vehicles fled the scene of the crash. A short time after the incident, the police in Pennsauken, New Jersey, pulled over the driver of the blue charger. The driver, who was identified as Joseph Vannauker, was taken into police custody.

At this time, the incident is being investigated.
