Philadelphia, PA (March 30, 2026) – A 58-year-old man was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday night, March 28, in Northeast Philadelphia.

According to police, the crash occurred just before 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Cottman Avenue and Castor Avenue. Authorities said a 24-year-old man driving a 2014 silver Honda Odyssey in the southbound right lane of Castor Avenue struck the pedestrian while he was crossing the street.

The victim was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.

We hope that the injured pedestrian makes a full and swift recovery.

Can You Still File a Claim If the Driver Stayed at the Scene After a Philadelphia Pedestrian Accident?

Yes, even if the driver remains at the scene and cooperates with the police, you may still have the ability to file a Philadelphia personal injury claim. Although staying at the scene is required by law, it does not determine who is at fault for the crash.

In these situations, investigators and insurance companies will review what happened leading up to the collision. This may include where the pedestrian was crossing, traffic signals, vehicle speed, and visibility conditions at the time.

Pennsylvania follows a choice no-fault system, which can affect how medical expenses are initially covered. Depending on the insurance policies involved, certain benefits may apply regardless of fault, while other damages may depend on who is found responsible.

Medical costs, ongoing treatment, and the impact of injuries are often key factors in any claim. Documentation such as hospital records, doctor evaluations, and accident reports can help support the process.

In some cases, compensation may relate to medical expenses, lost income, or other effects of the injury. The specifics can vary depending on the circumstances and the severity of the injuries.

It may also be helpful to understand that insurance companies can request statements, medical authorizations, or additional documentation during the claims process. Taking time to review what is being requested and keeping copies of all submissions can help avoid confusion later.

In more complex cases, timelines may extend as fault and damages are evaluated, so patience and organization can play an important role in moving the claim forward.

Even when a driver cooperates, questions about responsibility can still arise. Both the actions of the driver and the pedestrian may be reviewed when determining how claims are handled.
