Philadelphia, PA (May 5, 2023) – Around 10:30 p.m. on the night of Thursday, May 4, a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident took place in Philadelphia.
According to Philadelphia Police, the accident happened at the intersection of North Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue. Police confirmed that a pedestrian was either on the road or the sidewalk when they were suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle. The driver immediately fled the scene of the crash, but pieces of their vehicle were left next to the local Sunoco gas station. Police later found the driver’s vehicle at 8th Street and Cumberland Street, though they did not say if they found the driver.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has only been identified as a 35-year-old man, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was injured as a result of the collision.
The area was blocked for some time after the accident. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
We offer our warmest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of the pedestrian whose life was lost in this accident.
Pedestrians who are struck by large vehicles, even just an average passenger vehicle, could be susceptible to serious injuries or fatalities in the event of an accident. Unfortunately, there is no promise that pedestrian accidents will ever end in the state of Pennsylvania, even though many precautions and laws have been implemented to protect these vulnerable parties from harm. Between the years 2012 and 2020, an average of 158 pedestrians were killed in Pennsylvania accidents each year. If you have lost somebody you love in a pedestrian accident, speaking with a skilled legal advocate is in your best interests.
Both pedestrian accident claims and wrongful death claims are complex manners due to the many laws that come into play. Because of the complications with these claims, speaking with an attorney is one of the best ways that you and your family can get back on your feet after the loss of a loved one. Wrongful death claims involve a strict statute of limitations to abide by. On top of this, only specific parties can bring a wrongful death claim. If you have lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident, speaking with a Philadelphia wrongful death attorney is one of the best steps that you can take.
