Perry County, PA (October 6, 2025) – A deadly crash in Perry County over the weekend left one person dead and several others injured in what officials described as a multi-casualty event.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reported that the collision occurred on October 4, around 8:30 p.m., on Route 11/15, just north of New Buffalo near Motter Rd. According to initial reports, four vehicles were involved. Pennsylvania State Police said the chain reaction began when a vehicle driving north in the southbound lanes crossed into oncoming traffic. That vehicle struck three other cars in quick succession, creating a chaotic scene that demanded a large-scale emergency response.
Authorities confirmed that the driver traveling the wrong way was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released as officials work to notify family members. Several occupants from the other vehicles suffered injuries of varying severity. All passengers in one car, along with at least one individual from another vehicle, were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. At this time, emergency crews have not provided an update on their conditions.
A section of Rte 11/15 was shut down for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage and aided the victims. The roadway has since reopened, though Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the deceased victim’s loved ones and also hope for the recovery of those who were injured.
Wrong-way crashes, such as the one on Rte 11/15, highlight the dangers of driver confusion and the devastating consequences that often follow. These collisions are especially dangerous because they frequently result in head-on impacts. The combined force of two vehicles traveling toward each other dramatically increases the risk of severe or fatal injuries.
In Pennsylvania, wrong-way accidents are often linked to impairment, distraction, fatigue, or sudden medical emergencies. Many occur at night when visibility is limited and drivers are more vulnerable to mistakes. Multi-vehicle collisions only intensify the danger, as they put multiple people at risk in a matter of seconds.
Local and state officials continue to review roadway safety measures to reduce these types of incidents. Drivers in Perry County and across the state are urged to remain alert, especially on divided highways where wrong-way vehicles can appear suddenly and without warning.
