Pedestrian Accidents in Pennsylvania

Pedestrian accidents are among the most devastating types of collisions—and unfortunately, they are not uncommon in Pennsylvania. From busy city intersections in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to quiet crosswalks in small towns, pedestrians face serious risks when drivers fail to pay attention, follow traffic laws, or yield the right of way.

Common causes of pedestrian accidents include distracted driving, speeding, running red lights or stop signs, failure to yield at crosswalks, and impaired driving. Poor lighting, limited visibility, and hazardous road conditions can also contribute—especially during Pennsylvania’s long winter months.

Under Pennsylvania law, injured pedestrians have the right to pursue compensation when a driver’s negligence causes harm. Victims may be entitled to damages for medical expenses, lost wages, ongoing treatment, and pain and suffering. In the event of a fatal accident, surviving family members may have the option to file a wrongful death claim.

After a pedestrian accident, it’s important to act quickly. Seek medical care immediately, even if injuries aren’t obvious at first. Call the police and file an accident report. If you’re able, collect contact information from witnesses, take photos of the scene, and document any visible injuries. These steps can help strengthen your case and protect your rights.

Pennsylvania has a two-year statute of limitations for personal injury claims, but gathering evidence and navigating insurance issues often takes time. Whether the at-fault driver stayed at the scene or fled, having the right support can make a significant difference in how your case moves forward.

To ensure you have the best chance of protecting your rights in the aftermath of a car crash, you should seek guidance from a Penbrook pedestrian accident lawyer immediately. A skilled, compassionate attorney can help you pursue a claim and seek the maximum possible compensation for your damages.
