Northern Cambria, PA – Joan Schellhammer Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Maple Ave

Northern Cambria, PA (August 20, 2023) – A woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that took place on a roadway in Northern Cambria on Friday night, August 18.

According to Cambria County officials, the accident happened before midnight on Maple Avenue. Police confirmed that a female pedestrian was walking in the area on her way toward Rocky’s Tavern when she was suddenly struck by the driver of a 2001 Chevy Cavalier. It is believed that the driver of the vehicle that struck her remained at the scene.

Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, identified as 53-year-old Joan Schellhammer, was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. She was tragically pronounced dead while there around 1 a.m. due to a blunt-force head injury.

The roadway was blocked for several hours in the area of the accident until police cleared the scene.
