New Stanton, PA (March 8, 2022) – A woman was killed in a fatal head-on collision that took place in New Stanton on Monday, March 7.
According to State Police, the accident happened around 11:19 a.m. on Arona Road. Police confirmed that the driver of a Ford Focus was traveling south at a high rate of speed when they suddenly traveled over the center line to pass a vehicle. Their vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Matrix that was headed north. The vehicles involved in the collision were severely damaged as a result of the crash.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Toyota, identified as 57-year-old Dawn Coyne, was rushed to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. She was tragically pronounced dead while there. The driver of the Ford was identified as a 17-year-old girl. She, as well as her 42-year-old female passenger, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
