Manheim Twp., PA (April 15, 2026) – Five people were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Tuesday, April 14, along Route 30 in Manheim Township. The incident happened around 1:37 p.m. near the Oregon Pike exit, prompting a response from emergency units.

Officials said a school microbus from the Cocalico School District was part of the crash while returning from a field trip. Four students were on board at the time, but authorities confirmed that none of the children were injured.

The Manheim Township Police Department reported that a total of seven vehicles were involved in the collision. Five drivers suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Two additional school buses stopped near the scene but were not part of the crash. School officials stated that all students, staff, and volunteers involved were safe and accounted for.

Emergency crews worked at the scene and cleared the area later that afternoon. Investigators have not yet shared what caused the accident or if any citations will be issued.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Our thoughts are with those injured as they recover and receive care.

Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes Involving School Buses Can Lead to Serious Injuries

Multi-vehicle accidents involving school buses can lead to serious injuries because of the size and weight of the vehicles involved. When several cars are part of the same crash, the force of impact can travel through multiple points, increasing the risk of harm. Highways and busy routes often see these types of collisions, especially in areas with heavy traffic or frequent lane changes.

School buses are designed to protect passengers, but other drivers may not have the same level of protection. When a bus is involved, smaller vehicles can absorb more of the impact. This can make injuries more likely for drivers and passengers in nearby cars.

People involved in these crashes may experience a wide range of injuries. Some may notice neck or back pain shortly after the accident, while others may develop symptoms hours later. Head injuries, muscle strain, and joint pain are also common after a sudden impact.

In more serious cases, individuals may need ongoing care, including physical therapy or follow-up visits with doctors. Recovery time can vary depending on the type of injury. Keeping track of medical visits and treatment plans can help people better understand their progress.

A personal injury lawyer can assist by reviewing the details of a crash and explaining what options may be available. This often includes looking at reports, medical records, and insurance coverage. Having clear information can make it easier to understand the steps to take.

Legal guidance may also help with communication between those involved and insurance providers. Organizing documents, such as bills and treatment records, can support a clearer picture of the situation. Each case is different, so a careful review can help identify what may apply.

We can help explain how medical expenses, insurance claims, and documentation may work after a collision.
