Lancaster, PA – Worker Dead After Falling into Grate at Dwntwn Holiday Inn

Lancaster, PA (June 10, 2024) – A man is dead after an apparent workplace accident that took place in Lancaster County on Sunday afternoon, June 10.

Lancaster City Police said first responders were called to the Holiday Inn in downtown Lancaster just before 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. An employee had fallen through a hole that was normally covered by a steel grate, though the grate had been temporarily removed for maintenance work, per early reports from authorities. Revival efforts were unsuccessful, and the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office was called.

On Monday, the Lancaster County Coroner’s office said the employee was a 42-year-old man from Lancaster. Officials added that the cause of death was ruled multiple traumatic injuries. The area was blocked off for some time after the accident, and it is not known if work continued after the accident. No further details have been released at this time, though police confirmed on Monday that the investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Witnesses or those with additional information were asked to get in touch with Lancaster investigators.

We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased man’s family.
