Pedestrian Accidents in Pennsylvania
Any type of accident can have a huge impact on your life. However, one of the most severe accidents is pedestrian-related collisions. These accidents tend to lead to a long road to recovery. On top of this, many lives are lost due to pedestrian accidents every year. In fact, in just 2020, statistics showed that approximately 145 pedestrians were killed in Pennsylvania accidents. This means that Pennsylvania ranks 15th in the country when it comes to those who have lost their lives in pedestrian collisions. Drivers are expected to watch out for parties on our roads who are most vulnerable in the event of an accident. If you have lost a loved one, you and your family should understand your options moving forward.
It is normal to feel concerned about where you will turn after losing a loved one in a pedestrian crash. There are many leading causes of pedestrian accidents, including the following:
- Distracted driving, such as texting while driving
- Motor vehicles not yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians
- Making a turn at intersections before looking
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Design defects in crosswalks and other areas that pedestrians utilize
