Harrisburg, PA (December 29, 2022) – In the evening hours of Tuesday, December 27, a woman was killed in a fatal bicycle crash in Harrisburg.
According to Harrisburg Police, the accident happened at the intersection of South Cameron Street and Paxton Street. Police arrived at the scene to find that a bicyclist was traveling in the area when she was suddenly struck by the driver of a passenger vehicle due to reasons that are not entirely known.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The bicyclist, who has since been identified only as an adult female, was seriously injured and rushed to a local hospital. While there, she tragically passed away from her injuries.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for some time following the accident. This led to extensive delays in the area.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
We would like to offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim whose life was taken in this accident.
Bicycle accidents may not be the most common type of accident that happens on our roads in Pennsylvania. However, when they do occur, they tend to lead to some of the most catastrophic harm. This is due to the fact that bicyclists have no protection from harm in the event of an accident. In 2020, it was reported that approximately 932 people were killed in fatal bicycle accidents across the U.S., and many others were seriously injured. Losing somebody you love in one of these collisions can be a devastating and unexpected experience. Because of this, you and your family should understand your options moving forward.
