Altoona, PA (December 7, 2025) – A woman died on December 5 after a violent crash on Plank Road near the Interstate 99 Northbound interchange. The collision happened at 12:49 p.m., according to Allegheny Township police.
Officials said an 84-year-old woman, later identified as Barbara Tretinik of Northern Cambria, struck oncoming traffic and caused a severe multi-vehicle collision. First responders reached the scene quickly and found several vehicles with heavy damage scattered across the roadway. Crews worked to treat victims, assess the crash area, and secure the busy stretch of road.
The Blair County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Tretinik died from injuries suffered in the wreck. EMS evaluated additional victims at the scene, and authorities reported that at least one person required further medical care. Police have not released the identities or conditions of the surviving motorists.
Allegheny Township police are leading the investigation into both incidents. Officers plan to review roadway debris, analyze vehicle damage, and interview witnesses. They have not shared details about potential contributing factors or whether any charges may follow.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Barbara Tretinik. We also wish those hurt a rapid recovery.
Deadly crashes continue to impact families throughout Blair County. Intersections and high-traffic routes like Plank Road often create fast-changing driving conditions that leave motorists with little reaction time. Even brief confusion or inattention can lead to devastating consequences. Wrong-way crashes in particular create extreme force, which often results in catastrophic or fatal injuries.
Busy commercial roadways present additional risks. Traffic flows can change quickly as drivers enter and exit nearby businesses or merge toward major interchanges. When a driver travels the wrong way, oncoming motorists have only seconds to respond. At higher speeds, those few seconds are rarely enough to avoid a violent impact. This danger increases near interstates, where vehicles often accelerate or shift lanes rapidly.
For families, a fatal crash often brings sudden grief and unexpected expenses. Funeral costs, medical bills, and lost income can create overwhelming financial strain. A wrongful death claim may help families seek compensation and hold negligent parties accountable. These claims also provide a path toward answers and closure during a painful time.
Surviving victims frequently suffer serious injuries in multi-vehicle collisions. They may experience fractures, head trauma, or internal injuries that require extensive treatment. Recovery can take months, and many victims face time away from work. A personal injury claim may help cover medical costs, lost earnings, and other damages associated with long-term recovery.
Insurance companies sometimes dispute liability or question the extent of injuries. Adjusters may delay decisions or attempt to limit payouts. Experienced legal guidance can help victims understand their rights and secure fair compensation. A qualified attorney can review crash reports, gather evidence, and negotiate effectively with insurers.
