Altoona, PA (January 21, 2023) – Around 10:45 p.m. on the night of Friday, January 20, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash in Altoona.

According to Altoona Police, the accident happened at 200 17th Street. Police confirmed that a pedestrian male was crossing the street in the area when he was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle due to reasons that are not fully known. The driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene to cooperate with police after the accident.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has since been identified as a 38-year-old man, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to trauma caused by the accident. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic as police worked to clear the scene. This led to delays in the area for some time.

No further details have been released. Pennsylvania State Police continues its investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
