Washington County, PA (July 14, 2026) – A 24-year-old man died on Tuesday morning, July 14, after a wrong-way collision near the Donora exit on Pennsylvania Route 43, according to authorities.
The coroner identified the victim as Jacob Matthew Huber of Ruffs Dale. Investigators said Huber was traveling when another vehicle entered the roadway in the wrong direction and collided head-on with his vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle and a passenger were transported to a hospital with injuries.
The Pennsylvania State Police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including why the other vehicle entered the roadway traveling in the wrong direction.
Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of Jacob Matthew Huber during this difficult time.
Wrong-way collisions in Pennsylvania often involve complicated investigations because determining why a vehicle traveled in the wrong direction may require reviewing many different factors.
Investigators typically examine the circumstances before the crash, the actions of the drivers involved, and the evidence left behind to determine what contributed to the collision.
To understand how the crash unfolded, authorities may review a combination of evidence, including vehicle damage, roadway markings, debris patterns, photographs, witness accounts, police reports, emergency response records, and available surveillance or traffic camera footage.
Investigators may also analyze traffic conditions, roadway design, lighting, vehicle movements, and driver behavior to determine how a vehicle entered the wrong lane or direction of travel. Factors such as impairment, fatigue, distraction, unfamiliar roadways, mechanical problems, or sudden medical events may also be considered during the review.
Because wrong-way crashes can happen quickly and leave little opportunity for other motorists to avoid impact, reconstructing the sequence of events is often a key part of the investigation. Details such as the location of the vehicles after the collision, impact points, and statements from witnesses may help provide a clearer explanation of what occurred.
For families coping with the loss of a loved one, preserving records related to the accident can become an important step. Documents including investigative reports, medical records, funeral and burial expenses, employment information, insurance correspondence, and other financial records may help show the full effect of the crash.
Maintaining these materials in an organized manner can make it easier to provide information during insurance reviews or potential legal proceedings.
After a fatal wrong-way collision, a Pennsylvania wrongful death lawyer can assist in reviewing the available evidence, corresponding with insurance companies, and outlining potential legal options.
Legal advice may also make clear how liability is assessed, what deadlines might be relevant, and what compensation might be sought if the evidence is strong enough.
