Stoneboro, PA (November 13, 2022) - A woman was killed in a fatal rollover crash that took place on a Stoneboro highway on Friday night, November 11.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident happened around 8:04 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-79 around the area of mile marker 129. Police confirmed that 18-year-old Matteo Guarjardo was traveling south in the area when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle due to reasons that are not entirely known. His vehicle then went off the side of the road and struck an embankment, overturning before it came to a stop. When the vehicle was blocking the left lane, another vehicle came along and struck the first vehicle, leading to extensive damages.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. A passenger in the first vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Danielle Duncan, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Guarjardo was rushed to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
We offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim whose life was lost as a result of this accident.
In 2019, it was reported that rollover accidents involving one vehicle account for 49% of fatalities stemming from rollover crashes. Though only about 2% of car accidents were deemed rollover accidents, these accidents tend to lead to catastrophic harm when they do occur. When a driver is not paying close attention to the roads around them, a fatal accident could occur in the blink of an eye.
