Upper Leacock Township, PA (February 9, 2026) – A farming accident claimed the life of a 2-year-old child on February 7 in Upper Leacock Township, Lancaster County. Emergency crews responded to the scene after reports of a young child struck by farm equipment along a rural roadway.

According to dispatchers, the child had been struck by a tractor. Initial reports indicated that the child went into cardiac arrest shortly after the incident. Emergency medical services arrived on scene and confirmed that CPR had already begun before their arrival. Responders continued lifesaving efforts as they assessed the child’s condition.

Despite these efforts, dispatchers later reported that the incident was fatal. The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to begin its official duties.

East Lampeter Township police also assisted as part of the coordinated response. Authorities have not released the identity of the child.

Fire police shut down Newport Road in the immediate area to allow emergency crews to work safely. The closure remained in place for approximately three hours while responders managed the scene and conducted preliminary assessments. Crews reopened the roadway by noon.

Officials have not released details about how the tractor struck the child or what events led up to the accident. Investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the child’s family and loved ones during this challenging time.

Farming Accidents Involving Children in Rural Pennsylvania

Farming accidents pose unique dangers due to the size, weight, and limited visibility of agricultural equipment. Tractors and other farm machinery often operate in close proximity to homes, barns, and yards, which can increase risks for young children.

Children may not be fully aware of the hazards associated with farm vehicles. Operators may also face blind spots that make it difficult to see small children nearby. These factors can lead to tragic outcomes within moments.

Emergency response plays a critical role in farm-related incidents. Quick action, including CPR and rapid dispatch, can make a difference in some cases. However, the force involved in machinery-related accidents often causes severe injuries that emergency care cannot reverse.

After a fatal farming accident, investigations typically focus on understanding how the incident occurred. Authorities may review equipment placement, supervision factors, and environmental conditions. These reviews help clarify events and may inform future safety efforts.

Families affected by such tragedies often face overwhelming emotional and practical challenges. In addition to grief, they may need to navigate interactions with investigators, insurance representatives, and medical or coroner offices. Organized documentation can help during this difficult period.

A wrongful death lawyer can help families understand investigative findings, insurance issues, and potential legal paths after a fatal accident. Legal guidance often focuses on clarity and education rather than pressure.
