York County, PA (May 13, 2025) – Five people were hospitalized after being exposed to an "unknown substance" at York County Prison over the weekend of May 10/May 11, according to county officials.
Emergency personnel responded to a hazmat incident at the prison on Concord Road at around 9:45 a.m. During routine security rounds, several staff members came into contact with an unknown substance, prompting staff to call 911 for assistance, according to county officials. Four members of the prison staff and one member of the medical staff were transported to the hospital for treatment and evaluation, officials said. Their conditions are unknown.
Police confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Witnesses or those with additional information were asked to get in touch with local investigators.
