West Wheatfield Township, PA (February 27, 2026) – On Wednesday afternoon, February 25, two people died following a major crash involving a passenger vehicle, a dump truck, and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Route 22, Mt. Tabor Road, and Bowser Road.

Photos and aerial footage from Sky 4, Pittsburgh’s news chopper, show that all three vehicles sustained significant damage. Responders evaluated the drivers of the dump truck and tractor-trailer, who were transported to nearby hospitals. An accident reconstruction team, coroner, EMS, firefighters, and multiple other units responded to the scene. Indiana County District Attorney Robert F. Manzi Jr. called the crash “significant.”

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes as part of Route 22 remained closed for several hours. Eastbound lanes have reopened, while westbound lanes will remain closed until officials complete crash reconstruction. Pennsylvania State Police continues investigating the crash.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family members of the deceased during this difficult time.

What Families Should Know After a Serious Truck Accident in Indiana County

Being involved in a crash with commercial vehicles can be overwhelming, especially when fatalities are involved. First, ensure that all individuals involved receive appropriate medical attention. Even if injuries appear minor, conditions such as whiplash, concussions, or internal injuries may not be immediately apparent. Professional evaluation is essential for safety and to document injuries.

Accurate documentation is critical after a crash. Obtain official reports from responding officers and emergency personnel, including details about the vehicles involved, the location, the time, road conditions, and witness statements. Photographs of the accident scene, vehicle damage, and visible injuries provide additional evidence for insurance claims or potential legal matters.

Keeping detailed records of medical treatment, emergency response, and related expenses is also important. Notes about the accident, symptoms, and recovery progress can help establish connections between the crash and any injuries or long-term effects. Collecting contact information from witnesses or bystanders can further strengthen your records.

Emotional support is also crucial. Even brief or seemingly minor accidents can be traumatic, particularly for children or elderly family members. Support from friends, family, or local counseling services can help manage stress and provide practical assistance.

Families should also understand insurance and legal processes. Communicating carefully with insurance companies is essential, as providing recorded statements or accepting early settlements without guidance may limit compensation. Consulting with a wrongful death accident attorney can help families navigate claims, ensure proper documentation, and protect legal rights.
