Pottsville, PA (July 1, 2024) – State police informed a multi-vehicle accident has shut down a portion of Interstate 78 eastbound, causing traffic delays as far back as the Trexlertown exit in Upper Macungie on Monday, July 1.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s traffic reporting system noted the incident just before 8:30 a.m. that day, between Exit 29 in Pottsville at Route 61 northbound and Hamburg. All lanes were shut down. Two people were apparently trapped inside one of the two vehicles involved and freed before being brought to the hospital, but the degree of the injuries is still unknown. Officers continue to investigate the incident in the meantime, though no additional details regarding the cause of the accident have been provided.
