Londonderry Township, PA (January 28, 2025) - Three people were injured after a Pennsylvania State Police vehicle was involved in a crash on Route 283 in Dauphin County on Sunday morning, January 26.
A state police Ford Explorer was on Route 283 eastbound with its emergency lights activated while a trooper investigated a previous crash in the area, according to a recent news release.
The state police vehicle was half in the left lane and half in the left shoulder while the previous crash vehicle was awaiting a tow truck, police said. According to police, all passing vehicles were slowing down and merging into the right lane as required by law when passing an emergency response area.
A Volkswagen Passat traveling down Route 283 failed to yield and crashed into the state police vehicle, the release said. The trooper in the state police vehicle and two people in the Volkswagen were all transported to Hershey Medical Center for "suspected serious injuries," per Pennsylvania State Police. Police say speed and/or alcohol are suspected as potential causes of the incident. However, no further details have been released as an investigation remains ongoing.
