Philadelphia, PA (February 13, 2023) – Around 1:30 a.m. on the morning of Monday, February 13, a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash happened in Philadelphia.
According to Philadelphia Police, the accident happened at 6400 Buist Avenue. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling in the area in a 2019 Kia when they suddenly struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street in a crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene and kept driving. Later, police discovered the responsible vehicle on Harley Avenue, partially burned. Pieces of the vehicle were left all over the crime scene, which police collected.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Philadelphia responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has only been identified as a 32-year-old local man, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was injured in the collision.
A large portion of the roadway was blocked in the area of the accident. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible so traffic could resume as normal.
The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident continues. Police will continue to update with more information as it becomes available.
