Pedestrian accidents are on the rise throughout the nation, including in Pennsylvania. The hazard to pedestrians has escalated substantially in recent years due to the peak of distracted driving. Unfortunately, thousands of pedestrians are killed or injured annually in collisions.
And although pedestrian accidents can occur anywhere, certain areas present a greater risk. With more than 2,200 accidents occurring in metropolitan statistical areas over the last year, most of these incidents occurred in urban regions. There were roughly 1,240 accidents in suburban areas, compared to only about 430 in rural areas. For instance, when drivers do not yield to pedestrians who are passing busy city streets, they can strike them and cause severe or fatal injuries. Furthermore, a lot of people fail to stop at intersections, resulting in severe accidents that result in devastating injuries for those involved.
Critical injuries or fatalities can result from pedestrian accidents, causing permanent suffering and financial hardship. This leaves victims to deal with the painful aftermath of an accident that occurred through no fault of their own. Long-term, painful injuries or the tragic loss of a loved one as a result of an accident is something that no victim or family should ever have to experience.
