Penn Township, PA (April 20, 2026) — This is an update from a previously covered article. You can read the initial report here.

The Berks County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the young man killed in a tragic multi-motorcycle collision that took place on Friday, April 17. Alex Seigfried, a twenty-four-year-old man from Bernville, was fatally injured in the crash that occurred on Garfield Road.

According to officials, Seigfried was traveling westbound on his motorcycle when he was struck by another motorcycle. Following the impact, he was rushed to Reading Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced deceased by medical staff at 7:37 p.m.

The condition of the second motorcyclist has not been updated, and the Penn Township Police, along with the Berks County Crash Reconstruction Unit, are continuing to investigate the mechanics of the collision.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of Alex Seigfried during this challenging time.

How to Prove Liability in a "Motorcycle vs. Motorcycle" Collision

In Pennsylvania, liability in a multi-motorcycle crash is determined by Comparative Negligence rules, where fault is assigned based on which rider’s actions, such as crossing the centerline, speeding, or failing to yield, directly caused the impact.

Navigating the legal aftermath of these types of accidents requires a focus on technical details to ensure the facts are properly documented. Investigators analyze skid marks, the final resting positions of the bikes, and the specific point of impact to determine who actually had the right-of-way.

Since motorcycles typically lack the "black box" data recorders found in modern cars, statements from other motorists are often the most critical evidence in reconstructing the moments leading up to the collision.

For the family of a deceased rider, Pennsylvania law provides a path for justice through both a Wrongful Death and a Survival Action. While a wrongful death claim seeks to compensate the family for their emotional and economic loss, a Survival Action addresses the damages the rider could have claimed themselves, such as medical expenses incurred at the Hospital.

Because these are two distinct legal filings, it can be helpful to have a lawyer who can manage the necessary probate requirements while the police investigation into the other rider’s conduct remains active.

A consultation with a personal injury lawyer familiar with Pennsylvania's laws can help to ensure the investigation into the collision is handled fairly and that nothing interferes with your family's right to justice.
