The Lancaster City Bureau of Police identified the victim as Ava Turczynski. The crash happened on East 28th Division Highway (US Route 322), where Turczynski was attempting to cross the westbound lanes. As she moved south into the roadway, a vehicle traveling westbound struck her. The impact occurred in the westbound lane, and the driver stopped at the scene.
Ms. Turczynski sustained severe injuries from the crash. Sadly, she succumbed to these injuries later.
Authorities are still investigating the events that led to the collision. No further details have been released.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this sudden and tragic loss.

The tragic death on Route 322 highlights the serious risks pedestrians encounter in Lancaster County and throughout Pennsylvania. State statistics demonstrate that pedestrian fatalities remain a major public safety concern, as hundreds of lives are lost each year on Pennsylvania roads despite ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety. In fact, in 2023 alone, 186 pedestrians died in crashes statewide.
Crossing a busy highway often raises legal questions about fault and responsibility. Pennsylvania law outlines clear duties for both drivers and pedestrians. Drivers must operate their vehicles safely and remain alert, while pedestrians are expected to exercise reasonable care for their own safety. Even if a pedestrian shares some responsibility in an incident, the driver is still required to take necessary actions to avoid a crash.
Fatal accidents caused by negligence may give surviving family members the right to file a wrongful death claim. These legal actions are meant to recover damages for the family’s losses, including funeral and burial costs, medical bills, and estate administration expenses.
More importantly, wrongful death claims can also address non-economic losses. These include the loss of the victim’s financial support, companionship, guidance, and emotional comfort. The success of such claims often depends on proving negligence and applying Pennsylvania’s modified comparative negligence rule. Under this law, compensation is reduced if the victim is partially at fault. If they are found more than 50% responsible, the family may not be entitled to any financial recovery.
Because wrongful death claims are legally complex, families should seek help from an experienced attorney. These cases require thorough investigation to determine liability and to pursue the full compensation the family may be entitled to. A skilled wrongful death attorney can fight for the justice and compensation bereaved families need during this challenging time.
