Lancaster County, PA (October 21, 2025) – A serious car accident involving three vehicles shut down the eastbound lanes of Route 30 in Lancaster County Tuesday morning, trapping one driver and causing major traffic delays.
According to East Hempfield Township Police and local dispatchers, the crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. between the Mountville exit and PA 741 Millersville exit. Early reports indicate that one of the vehicles, a white passenger car, collided with the rear of a dump truck and became wedged under its back end. A third vehicle was also involved in the collision, ending up in a grassy area beside the roadway.
The Mountville Fire Company was among the first responders to arrive at the scene. In a statement shared on social media, the department confirmed that rescue teams found one driver trapped in their vehicle and immediately began extrication efforts. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to free the pinned individual while paramedics provided emergency medical assistance. The injured driver was transported to a nearby hospital, though their current condition has not been released.
As crews worked to clear the scene, PennDOT officials closed all eastbound lanes of Route 30 for several hours to allow emergency responders to safely remove the vehicles and debris. Westbound traffic also experienced delays due to rubbernecking and detours. All lanes have since been reopened.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and police have not confirmed whether speed, distraction, or mechanical issues were contributing factors. Authorities continue to gather witness statements and review photos from the scene.
We wish the victim and everyone involved a speedy recovery.
Crashes involving multiple vehicles, such as this one in Lancaster County, often result in severe injuries and complex investigations. The combination of heavy morning traffic, high speeds, and driver inattention on busy routes like Route 30 increases the risk of serious collisions. Victims trapped in their vehicles face a particularly dangerous situation, as crushing injuries and delayed extrication can worsen their condition.
In many multi vehicle crashes, determining fault can be challenging because several drivers may share partial responsibility. Police reports, dashcam footage, and witness accounts play crucial roles in understanding the sequence of events leading up to the impact. Once fault is determined, injured victims may have the right to pursue financial compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, and other damages.
