Hazle Township, PA (July 8, 2025) – Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) says four people are dead and one man was sent to the hospital after a Hazle Township crash that led to a fatal car fire.
In a release, troopers say just after 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, July 6, crews were called to a crash on the Cando Expressway, or State Route 924, west of its intersection with Oakridge Road.
During their investigation, state police say that the driver of the car was traveling north on the Cando Expressway when it collided with another vehicle. One of the cars was then engulfed in flames, trapping the five occupants, and passersby were able to free a 21-year-old man from the blaze, state police say.
Troopers went on to say the four unidentified passengers of the car were unable to leave the car fire and were pronounced dead on the scene. The man pulled from the car was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of their injuries, the release says. In the interim, the police advised motorists to avoid the area and stated that their investigation remains ongoing.
We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased victims' family members. Our thoughts are also with the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their complete recovery.
The unimaginable calamity of suffering severe injuries or losing a loved one in a fatal accident is something that no one should have to endure. The tragic reality is that it occurs far too frequently, with more than 1,100 fatalities happening annually in Pennsylvania alone. Accidents in Pennsylvania are still being caused by a variety of negligent behaviors on an annual basis. These incidents are frequently precipitated by failure to yield. Pedestrians who are passing in the vicinity may sustain severe or fatal injuries if drivers fail to yield.
In addition, distracted driving is a significant contributor to an excessive number of accidents. If drivers disregard roadway conditions or their environment in general, they are likely to inflict severe injuries that have significant repercussions for others. One of the primary causes of accidents is distractions. Texting, conversing with others, or even eating while operating a vehicle are all common activities.
