Drumore Township, PA (February 18, 2026) – An 87-year-old woman died on February 17 following a two-vehicle collision in Lancaster County. Authorities identified the victim as Alice Reich of New Providence.
Troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police responded to the intersection of Holtwood Road and Penny Road in Drumore Township at approximately 9:21 a.m. Investigators reported that the crash involved a Toyota Corolla and a Chevrolet Silverado.
According to police, the Corolla traveled westbound when it missed a turn and attempted to make a U-turn at the intersection. During that maneuver, the vehicle entered the path of the oncoming Silverado.
Investigators stated that the driver of the Silverado attempted to brake and swerve in an effort to avoid the collision. Despite that attempt, the truck struck the Corolla after it continued into the lane of travel. Following the impact, the Corolla traveled into a mailbox, while the Silverado left the roadway and entered a nearby field.
Emergency responders transported Reich to Lancaster General Hospital for medical treatment. Doctors pronounced her dead shortly after her arrival. Authorities confirmed that she suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
A 71-year-old woman who rode as a passenger in the Corolla also sustained injuries. Responders transported her to the hospital for evaluation of suspected minor injuries. Troopers reported that no occupants of the Silverado sustained injuries in the collision.
The Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the crash. Officials have not announced whether any citations or charges will follow as investigators work to determine the precise sequence of events.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Alice Reich during this difficult time.
Intersections require drivers to evaluate cross traffic, gauge speed, and execute turns with precision. When a driver attempts a U-turn, that maneuver demands accurate judgment of distance and timing. If a vehicle enters the path of oncoming traffic, even a brief miscalculation can result in a serious impact.
In collisions involving passenger cars and larger pickup trucks, the force of impact can cause substantial vehicle damage and severe injuries. Although modern vehicles include safety features such as airbags and reinforced frames, the sudden transfer of kinetic energy can still produce catastrophic outcomes.
Investigators typically examine several key elements in intersection crashes. They analyze vehicle positioning, skid marks, debris patterns, and electronic data from event recorders when available. They may also review witness statements and evaluate traffic control devices to reconstruct how the collision unfolded.
Crashes involving elderly drivers sometimes prompt additional review of factors such as reaction time and decision-making under roadway conditions. However, authorities rely on objective physical evidence and documented findings before reaching conclusions about causation.
Pennsylvania law permits surviving family members to pursue wrongful death and survival claims when negligence contributes to a fatal accident. These legal claims may address medical expenses, funeral costs, and the loss of financial support or companionship. Families must comply with strict filing deadlines under state law.
