Cumru Twp, PA (March 18, 2026) – Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash on Tuesday morning, March 17, on Philadelphia Avenue (Route 724) near Valley Stream Road in Cumru Township.

According to the Cumru Township Police Department, the crash involved a trash hauler and a pickup truck, with initial reports indicating possible entrapment and fire. When first responders arrived at the scene, they determined that the driver of the pickup truck had died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Authorities reported that the driver and a passenger in the trash hauler were evaluated by EMS at the scene and later transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.

Preliminary witness accounts and video evidence suggest that the trash hauler was traveling eastbound on Route 724, while the pickup truck was heading westbound, when they collided. The identities of those involved have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Philadelphia Avenue was closed between Valley Stream Road and Morgantown Road (Route 10) for several hours as crews conducted an investigation and cleared the scene. The roadway was reopened later in the evening. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the family members of the deceased victim, and we also hope those injured make a full and swift recovery.

How Long Do I Have to File a Truck Accident Claim in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania law allows crash victims or their families two years from the date of the accident to file a personal injury or wrongful death claim. This time frame applies to accidents involving commercial vehicles, including trucks such as trash haulers. If a claim is not filed within this period, courts may dismiss the case, regardless of its merits.

Some exceptions could affect this timeline. For example, if the injured party is a minor or if certain facts about the case were not immediately known, the filing period may be adjusted. However, these exceptions are limited, and it is important not to rely on them without proper legal guidance.

Acting promptly after a truck accident is essential. Evidence such as vehicle data, driver logs, maintenance records, and witness statements can be critical in determining liability, but this information may become harder to obtain over time. Early action helps preserve important details and strengthens a potential claim.

Because truck accidents often involve multiple parties, including drivers, companies, and insurers, the legal process can be complex. Speaking with a qualified wrongful death accident attorney can help victims and families understand their rights, meet important deadlines, and navigate the claims process effectively.
