Carlisle, PA (May 24, 2025) – One person is dead after two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in Carlisle on Friday night, May 23.
According to the Carlisle Police Department, crews responded to a reported motor vehicle crash involving pedestrians at 8:17 p.m. at the intersection of South Hanover Street and West Pomfret Street. Police said two pedestrians were struck in the collision, and one has passed away. The condition of the second victim is unknown at this time. However, no further details have been released, and the victim has yet to be identified.
We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased victim's family members. Our thoughts are also with the injured victim in hopes of their full recovery.
Pedestrian crashes remain a pressing safety issue throughout Pennsylvania, injuring more than 4,000 people and claiming dozens of lives each year. Urban centers like Philadelphia are especially hazardous, where heavy traffic, nighttime visibility problems, and frequent intersections create conditions ripe for pedestrian-vehicle collisions.
Because walkers have no protective shell, their injuries are often catastrophic. Traumatic brain damage, multiple fractures, spinal cord trauma, and internal bleeding can demand lengthy hospitalization, surgeries, and rehabilitation. The financial toll compounds quickly: an ambulance ride, imaging studies, and emergency care can run into the tens of thousands of dollars, and many victims lose income while they recover—an even harsher blow for those without robust insurance coverage.
The harm is not merely physical. Survivors frequently grapple with anxiety, depression, or vivid flashbacks, particularly when the driver fled the scene and remains unidentified. Hit-and-run cases also complicate the legal path to recovery; without eyewitnesses, surveillance footage, or a license plate, police investigations can stall, delaying both justice and compensation. In the face of these challenges, prompt medical attention, thorough evidence preservation, and knowledgeable legal guidance can help victims protect their rights and secure the support they need.
