Richmond Township, PA (April 6, 2026) – Two firefighters were killed on Saturday, April 4, in a head-on crash while assisting in a search for a missing woman in Berks County.

According to officials, the crash occurred around 6 p.m. along Route 222, approximately 45 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Authorities said the victims, identified as Fire Chief Jeff Buck and Assistant Fire Chief Robert Shick Jr. of the Walnuttown Fire Company, were traveling north in a utility vehicle when they were struck by a southbound Toyota Camry.

Reports indicate the utility vehicle was traveling along the shoulder when the Camry veered off the roadway and collided with it. Both firefighters were pronounced dead following the crash.

The occupants of the Camry, a male and a female, reportedly fled the scene but were later located and arrested.

The incident remains under investigation.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the victims during this challenging time.

What Can Families Do After a Fatal Crash Involving a Loved One in Pennsylvania?

After a fatal crash in Pennsylvania, families are left trying to process the loss while also facing many immediate and unexpected responsibilities. In the early stages, staying in contact with law enforcement can help you receive updates about the investigation, especially if there are questions about how the crash happened or if criminal charges may be filed.

At the same time, there are practical matters that need attention. This may include making funeral arrangements, obtaining a death certificate, and requesting official reports from police or the coroner. These documents are often needed for insurance purposes and other administrative steps that follow.

Insurance-related questions can also come up quickly. Depending on the situation, there may be multiple policies involved, and it’s not always clear right away how coverage applies. Taking the time to gather information—such as accident reports, medical records, and any communication with insurers—can help bring some organization during an otherwise overwhelming time.

It’s also important to give yourself space while handling these responsibilities. There’s no need to rush through decisions, especially when new information may still be coming in from investigators. As details become clearer, having records and documents in one place can make it easier to respond to requests or take the next steps.

For many families, questions about accountability and financial impact may arise in the weeks that follow. Having guidance during this process can help reduce some of the uncertainty and allow you to focus on what matters most.

If your family is going through the loss of a loved one after a crash, having the right support can make a difference. A lawyer can assist with handling insurance matters, organizing important information, and helping you move forward while you focus on your family.
