Philadelphia, PA – One Dead After Crash Involving SEPTA Bus at Island Ave & Buist Ave

Philadelphia, PA (March 5, 2026) – On Wednesday afternoon, March 4, at approximately 4:15 p.m, one person died and another was critically injured after a multi-vehicle crash involving a public transit bus at the intersection of Island Avenue and Buist Avenue. 

Police reported that a 2019 Honda CR-V, a SEPTA bus, and a black Jeep Compass were involved in the crash. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the driver and passenger from the Honda CR-V to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment. Officials later confirmed that the passenger succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 5:20 p.m. The driver of the Honda remains in critical condition.

Authorities stated that the driver of the Jeep Compass did not report any injuries following the crash. Information regarding injuries among passengers or the operator of the SEPTA bus has not been released. The intersection experienced significant emergency response activity while crews worked to assist victims and assess the scene. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the crash.
