Charleston Township, PA (October 28, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a serious two-vehicle collision involving a box truck and an SUV on Route 6 near Route 660 in Charleston Township. The incident took place on Tuesday, October 28. The crash, reported around 2:56 p.m., resulted in one person becoming trapped inside one of the vehicles and prompted a full emergency response from Wellsboro Fire Department, EMS, and Mansfield ambulance crews.
Upon arrival at approximately 2:59 p.m., firefighters began extrication efforts to free the trapped individual while medical teams provided aid to others who were possibly injured. A medical helicopter from Guthrie Air Medical was requested shortly after the crash to assist with transport.
By 3:08 p.m., Wellsboro Command closed Route 6 in both directions to allow emergency responders to operate safely. Traffic was redirected along Rice Rd and Route 660 while PennDOT personnel provided additional support with traffic control. The Guthrie Air Medical helicopter landed near the Tioga County Fairgrounds at around 3:36 p.m., awaiting the patient’s transfer.
At 3:59 p.m., rescue teams successfully extricated the trapped individual, who was then transported to the fairgrounds by the Mansfield ambulance unit. Guthrie Air Medical departed for a trauma center at approximately 4:15 p.m., while state police took control of the crash scene to conduct a formal investigation.
By 4:55 p.m., Route 6 was reopened after tow services from Scott’s Towing in Mansfield cleared the damaged vehicles. The Pennsylvania State Police have not yet released information on the identities of those involved or the current condition of the injured victim. The investigation remains ongoing.
We wish the victim and everyone involved a speedy recovery.
Truck accidents often lead to severe injuries and prolonged roadway closures due to the sheer size and weight of commercial vehicles. Intersections such as Route 6 and Route 660 are particularly vulnerable to collisions involving large trucks and passenger vehicles because of limited sight distance and heavy rural traffic flow.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, over 7,500 heavy truck crashes occurred statewide in 2024, many of which resulted in serious or fatal injuries. Factors contributing to these crashes include driver fatigue, failure to yield, improper turning, and limited braking capability. Even minor miscalculations can have devastating outcomes when large trucks are involved.
Victims of such crashes often face extensive medical treatment, loss of income, and emotional trauma. Families of injured individuals may also experience financial strain due to long-term recovery needs.
Trucking companies and their insurers often have legal teams working to minimize payouts, which makes early legal guidance crucial. Accident victims are encouraged to preserve evidence such as photos, witness statements, and medical records to strengthen their case.
