Harrisburg, PA (October 2, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash involving a box truck caused major traffic delays in Harrisburg on Thursday, October 1, around 6:45 a.m. The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 83. PennDOT reported that the box truck crashed into the right barrier, leading to a closure between Exit 44, 19th Street, and Exit 45, Paxton Street.

This closure led to severe traffic backups, stretching over the Susquehanna River and into Cumberland County. In addition, delays were also seen on Interstate 283. PennDOT noted that rubbernecking caused further slowdowns in the southbound lanes as drivers slowed down to view the accident scene. Emergency responders were on site quickly to assist those involved, but the clean-up and investigation took several hours, causing disruptions throughout the morning commute.

We wish the victim and everyone involved a speedy recovery.

Truck Accidents in Pennsylvania

Two Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Part of I-83 Northbound

Truck accidents, such as the one on Interstate 83 in Harrisburg, can lead to severe consequences for victims and the surrounding community. When large trucks, such as box trucks, are involved in accidents, the impact can be far more dangerous due to the size and weight of the vehicles. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), truck accidents cause thousands of injuries and fatalities every year across the country, with Pennsylvania seeing a significant number of these accidents.

Truck accidents can happen for several reasons. One of the most common causes is driver error. Truck drivers may speed, drive distracted, or be fatigued from long hours on the road. In fact, drowsy driving is a serious problem, as truck drivers are often on the road for extended hours, increasing their chances of making mistakes. Additionally, truck drivers sometimes make improper lane changes or fail to yield to other vehicles, causing accidents.

Weather conditions also play a role in truck accidents. Rain, snow, or fog can reduce visibility and make it harder for truck drivers to stop quickly. Poor road conditions, such as potholes or poorly marked lanes, can also lead to accidents. In some cases, mechanical failure, like brake malfunctions or tire blowouts, can contribute to a crash. When a truck loses control, the results can be devastating for other drivers on the road.

If you’ve been involved in a truck accident, it’s important to understand your legal rights. Our truck accident lawyer can help you pursue compensation for medical costs, lost income, and pain and suffering. In Pennsylvania, victims may be entitled to both economic and non-economic damages. Economic damages include medical bills and lost wages, while non-economic damages cover emotional distress and the loss of quality of life.

Additionally, if the accident was caused by the negligence of a truck driver or trucking company, victims may have the option to file a claim against their insurance or even pursue a lawsuit. Having a skilled attorney on your side will help guide you through the legal process and make sure you get the compensation you deserve.

Filing a claim after a truck accident can be a complex and time-consuming process. With the help of a knowledgeable truck accident lawyer, victims can ensure that they have the legal support needed to navigate the situation. Attorneys will handle the paperwork, negotiate with insurance companies, and represent the victim’s interests in court if necessary. This support allows victims to focus on recovering from their injuries without worrying about the legal process.
